About
Our story
I grew up in Japan, where scent marks the seasons. Yuzu floating in a hot bath at the turn of winter. Hinoki, the cypress used in old baths and temples. Roasted hojicha in the late afternoon. When I moved to British Columbia, those small everyday scents were the thing I missed most.
HANA started there. I began hand-pouring soy candles at home, trying to keep a little of those moments close. Not perfume, but the quiet, familiar scents of an ordinary Japanese day.
Every candle and wax melt is made by hand, in small batches, here in BC. I pour soy wax, and test each scent until it feels like the memory itself, not an imitation of it. Some are named for a place, some for a season, some for a cup of tea at the end of the day.
I work one small batch at a time because that is the only way I know to keep them honest. If a pour isn't right, it doesn't go out.
